Our band has been invited to play the Internation Pop Overthrow festival in Chapel Hill in February 2008.

The festival has been held only in the larger cities in the past but they are going to do local locations in 2008. The festival will be coming to Local 506 in Chapel Hill.

As soon as I have more details I'll post them here. :D

The schedule is in and we will be playing on Thursday night, February 21st from 7:30 - 8:00pm. We only have a 20 minute set so we will get 4 to 5 songs in and that's it. They are pushing several acts each night so that is why the short set. I don't expect any of you guys/gals to make this set as its early, on a Thursday and only 20 minutes long. I understand with work and all so if you can/want to make it, that's great but no big expectations here.

Each day is $8.

It looks like DBA is now playing at 8 PM according to the Local 506 website.

I'll be going to Four Corners up the street at 7:00 to watch the Canes game, then to the DBA set at 8, back to Four Corners until the Canes game ends around 9:30, then back to 506 for the last couple sets.

Well, I hate to bail at the last minute, but it looks like there could be some ice starting at around 9, and I don't really want to risk getting caught in that. Will just stay here and watch the Canes game.

It's probably best that I hide in my apartment anyway because I would probably catch the flu from somebody in the crowd.

The gig was a rousing success. Great venue, great bands. We've been invited to play any future festival we want. AND, we got a digital recording of our performance that I will share with everyone once Dempsey has the opportunity to pull the file into his PC and produce an .MP3

:D

Your right Wes. We should play the Charlotte area sometime. I'll talk to the guys about that.

I'm not sure how all that works, but I've been to both Tremont Music Hall and Amos' South End are two smaller venues I've been to to see bands. Amos' is probably the nicer of the two. Tremont looks like an old warehouse that just happened to open up for a show. Both are near downtown in the South End district. There's also a few small places up in NoDa (North Davidson) which is north of downtown.

Unless Alan wants to break out some Green Day covers, Tremont is not the place for DBA. Amos' is way too big. Charlotte suffers from a complete lack of small venues with character (as far as I know), and from a lack of a music or arts scene in general. I'm sure there are places out there in Charlotte like the Cave, Sadlack's, Tir Na Nog, etc, but have no idea what they are.

It is true that since we only play originals it does limit the locations we can play but that's ok with us. Wes, perhaps you could find some places that cater to original bands and we can send them some audition tracks to secure some gigs. Thanks!

Well, what I meant by that is that Tremont is for the most part a venue for so-called "punk", emo, hardcore, and other types of terrible modern rock music that you can think of. Plus Down By Avalon is still at the point where they need to be playing festival type gigs or at bars, restaurants, and clubs where people are already going to be coming regardless of a band playing. Especially in Charlotte. I doubt anyone is going to say "hey look Down By Avalon is playing tonight we have to go!" Your ego can't swell to that level quite yet Martin.
