I know this is out of range for most of you guys since it's in the Charlotte area...but I was just going to throw it out there and see if anyone was interested.

Reed Gold Mine was the site of the first gold rush in America, even before California. Charlotte even had a gold mint at one time.

I haven't been in years and i live 15-20 minutes from the place. Sad I know.

Also, admission is FREE.

Since i'm so close to it, anyone that wants to come down for the day is welcome to crash at my place. I have a spare bed and couch too.

I moved this to Sticky status. We should see if we can plan a trip. This would work well as a trip in conjunction with us going down to visit the Kerns family. We havn't met the new little girl to the family yet.

I was thinking maybe the first of April, so it can warm up a bit.

I'm sure underground it doesn't change much temperature wise though.

I think the last time I was there was in high school when they do the Haunted Mine thingy. Bascially you walk through the mines in the dark with ghosties and such in the mine to scare you.

I did some more looking around the website and they say that the demonstrations and such don't start until April each year. Again, I'm up for anytime.

Also, they are closed Sundays and Mondays (all year)

It looks like the easiest route for you guys would be I-85 to Hwy 601, then a couple turns off there.

Just know that in Concord Hwy 601 can be a bit congested, even on the weekends. The mall is there and so forth.

There's not a whole lot of anything out in Midland, so if you wanted to get dinner afterwards we'd have to head up to Concord or maybe even the "big" town of Albemarle. Locust also has a few dives. lol

Better yet, if you guys want to I can just fix us something up at home. I'm literally maybe 10-15 minutes from the mine.

I would love to attend but........going to see a concert and no it is not Kid Rock. Hope you guys have a great time.

We will probably make a weekend of it to visit with Mike and Sue also.

^ Be sure to invite them when you talk to them. Their little girl would probably love it.

Any excuse to get muddy is good for a kid.

I have to bale out on this date due to a Charity gig my band is playing that day. Can we possibly reschedule for the following weekend? May 3rd?
