2006 Midwest Voyage Returns

Monday, May 29th, 2006

It’s too late for me to write much about it, but I’ve worked hard tonight to get a majority of the pictures up already! Check them out at my flickr photoset page

for our Midwest Voyage trip to Holiday World and Beech Bend.

Also…. what do you think of using flickr instead of our current photo gallery? Flickr gives the pictures tons more exposure than just hosting them here. You can still comment, add to your favorites, view large sizes, all sorts of stuff. Comment here which you like better. More details from the trip will be posted soon!

DVD Review Theme Jonathan Hawkins Coasting 2K4

By: Alan Martin

Excellent roller coaster and theme-park related video collections continue to roll out in early 2005 and Jonathan Hawkins Coasting 2K4 collection is no exception. With its mix of great music, artful footage, variety of rides/parks and classy presentation, its a must have in your coaster video library.

The collection opens with a beautiful title-page picture from Dorney Park shot at night. Unlike most other DVD collections, the title page is clean and uncluttered. The menu options allow you to choose from a complete list of videos included with additional options for Scene Selection and Bonus Features all from the title page. A few Easter Eggs are also hidden throughout the disc.

DVD Review Theme Park Review: Coaster Expedition Vol. 5

By: Alan Martin

All good things must come to an end.

This poignant tagline appeared on the cover of the last DVD offering from Robb and Elissa Alvey and led many theme-park enthusiasts to believe that the closing chapter had arrived in their brilliant series of video offerings. The time, pressure and hassles involved in the whole process had taken its toll and it was time to end the madness. But when you love having fun and sharing it with the world as much as the Alveys do, you find it impossible to just stop. Thank goodness!

This 3-DVD Comeback Installment takes the viewer in a whole new direction from previous years. Here is an adventure in the East, specifically Japan, with all the sites, sounds, smells and odd Japanese to English interpretations one could hope for. On disc one, Robb, Elissa and friend Dan romp and reel through 18 of Japans greatest parks with playful abandon while capitalizing on every odd cultural discovery along the way. Additional State-side clips round out the disc with disc two providing excellent POV footage of nearly every ride on the trip. The third bonus disc compiles the winning entries from ThemeParkReviews 2004 Theme-park Video Contest.

Trip Report Spring Fling 2004 Six Flags Over Georgia

By: Alan Martin

Great weather, excellent food, top notch service, enthusiastic enthusiasts and LOTS of ERT this was Spring Fling 2004 at Six Flags Over Georgia on March 27th, 2004. An excellent time was had by all and I must begin with a heartfelt thanks to both the Six Flags management team and our superb South Eastern Representative Robert Ulrich. This coordinated effort created a fantastic event with all the thrills.

Jonathan Hawkins, Phil Hart, John Bedtelyon and myself left my place in Franklinton, NC at about 2:00pm. After discovering I had forgotten my shoes and having to go back, we were on the road and cruising toward Kannapolis, NC where we would pick up our 5th member of the Whootah clan Mike Wookie Kerns. This would be Phils first ever trip to SFOG with repeat visits for the rest. After reaching Kannapolis we were back on track and headed for our hotel on Six Flags Blvd. A stop at Hooters along the way provided nice atmosphere during dinner and introduced the restaurant to both Phil and Jonathan for the first time. They seemed to really enjoy it hmmm.. I wonder why?
