Not Responsible

August 3rd, 2006

As highly interesting and fun it would be to have all computers know the wonder of whootah, I would like to take this opportunity to say that the whootah.com clan is NOT responsible for the backdoor.wootbot virus.

Thank You

Congrats to Dave and Jonathan!

July 24th, 2006

Fellow whootah members Jonathan Hawkins and David Drake has just spend a gruesome 30 hour ride on the Screaming Eagle coaster at Six Flags St. Louis. Read the press release as stolen from the Rebel Yell here:

Six Flags St. Louis celebrated the 30th Birthday of the world-famous Screaming Eagle roller coaster with a 30-Hour Ride-A-Thon on Thursday and Friday, July 20 & 21. Members of the American Coaster Enthusiasts, who enjoy the John Allen designed wooden coaster, traveled cross-country to ride the three-quarter of a mile long wood coaster.

From the Southeast Region, veteran GASM marathon finisher David Drake (Hendersonville, NC) was joined by Jonathan Hawkins (Belmont, NC), Mike Kaiser (Chattanooga, TN) and Christopher Keyton (Ft. Oglethorpe, GA). They were among 20 riders willing to help with 30 hours of consecutive riding. Others came from California, Ohio, New Jersey, Florida, Maryland, Louisiana, New York and St. Louis.

13 riders finished, including all from the Southeast, and each received a season pass for this year (for those that did not have one) and one for next year, a carrying bag, sunscreen, Eagle shirt, complete set of Six Flags maps in a case, a piece of Eagle Track, Eagle cup, and a badge signifying the event. Chris Keyton also won a grand prize drawing of $1,000.

Congratulations to all the participants, and hurrah to those that finished. If you’d be interested in participating in a similar event, see the next story about an opportunity in Texas.

the Weekend Return and Contest Winners Announced!!

July 16th, 2006

Just returned Sunday from a spontaneous trip to the beach over the weekend. Mountain plans got canceled, so we heded off Saturday to visit the NC Battleship Saturday, went out to eat, toured Wilmington, then Sunday went to the Aquarium at Fort Fisher, splashed in nature’s huge wave pool, then headed across the ferry to South Port, then back home.

Pictures here!!

But, after checking my email just now, I see that Theme Park Review has posted their annual video contest winners. I’m proud to announce that the whootah clan has placed higher than ever, as a runner up to to the first place! Ok, we’re one of 4 runner ups, then there’s the first place winner. Thats so you know there’s one thats really good, and 4 that are good but too good to be placed 2nd, 3rd and 4th and so on. Anyway, check out the full contest results here

Horrible weather for Phils B-day Bash trip!

July 13th, 2006

Well, the weather is obviously very volatile so it looks like we will have to cancel the trip.  Let’s look for an alternate idea…

Time to Vote

June 18th, 2006

The annual video contest at themeparkreview.com is over and it’s time to vote for your favorite video! Our carowinds video (or how to use your movie camera) has placed into the finals. Show your whootah support by going here to cast your vote for Phil Hart and Alan Martin’s Carowinds Video.
Please also show support for whootah.com member Jonathan Hawkins Midwest Conquest video.

We have so far failed to place within the top 3 in the previous years contests, so wish us luck and stay tuned for the results!

The Majors

June 8th, 2006

Good friend Jonathan Hawkins film studies has forced him to undertake a more true to life short than the little stuff we’ve been doing ourselves.  So, here comes the multiple thousands of dollars German made Arriflex 16 from Arri.  16mm film camera, some more info on the camera can be found here, I couldn’t find a really good page for this camera, as the camera is over 40 years old now.

I’d have to say the first step in making a film is to insert the film.  Jonathan and Alison both had a class on how to load the film and use the camera, however, it ended up taking almost 2 hours to get the camera to a working on position.

2006 Midwest Voyage Returns

May 29th, 2006

It’s too late for me to write much about it, but I’ve worked hard tonight to get a majority of the pictures up already! Check them out at my flickr photoset page

for our Midwest Voyage trip to Holiday World and Beech Bend.

Also…. what do you think of using flickr instead of our current photo gallery? Flickr gives the pictures tons more exposure than just hosting them here. You can still comment, add to your favorites, view large sizes, all sorts of stuff. Comment here which you like better. More details from the trip will be posted soon!

Have a happy and safe memorial day!
